Java, Bali, Lombok and Flores.

DESTINATIONS

My favourite island by far in Indonesia is Lombok. Lombok is next to the mega populair island Bali, which I also like, but not as much as I love Lombok.

I have been to Indonesia 3 times. Visiting Indonesia is either suitable for a 2 week holiday, or travelling around for 6 months.

My ideal route starts in Bali, than Lombok, than Flores and than back to Lombok.

Indonesia

Indonesia consists of more than 16,000 islands. Travelling around can be done by train, plane or boat. I would not recommend the bus too much, but it is do-able.

Important to know is that the country is more than Bali, and most parts of the country are religious. It is appropriate to cover your knees and shoulders when you visit public places.

Kuta, Lombok - Surfers paradise

Kuta in Lombok is my absolute favourite. Do not confuse it with Kuta in Bali, which is totally different. I stayed here for a week and it was AMAZING. I kept extending my stay and I am definitely planning on coming back here.

Mellow Hostel

When I visited Kuta I was travelling with my friend. We stayed in Mellow Hostel, which is a small hostel owned by a cute family. We stayed in the private room, which was affordable because we coukd split it between the two of us. The hostel also has a dorm room, if you are travelling solo. Mellow Hostel is situated on the main road, but it is quiet enough if you want to sleep at night. They rent out scooters for 4 euros a day, and the serve amazing breakfast everyday.

Rent a scooter, surf, party, eat

We rented a scooter to visit all the nearby beaches. On the beach you can rent a surfboard for 2 euros or you can do a private lesson with a surfteacher for 16 euros. The teachers are funny and they might invite you for a bonfire later at night. Just driving around with the scooter is a day activity. The surroundings are beautiful. The beaches have white sand and if you drive for a little bit, you might find a beach with no-one else there. There are plenty of nice places to eat or have a drink. On the main road you can find excellent coffee, smoothiebowls.
